Installing a HRV Costs Nothing

As a new homebuyer, you can include the cost of an HRV in your mortgage. The small increase in your mortgage payment is usually offset by the energy savings generated by an efficient HRV*.

* Based on typical energy recovery properties of an HRV with an aluminum heat exchange core.

Energy Efficiency

With a proven ability to recover energy, HRVs are specified by energy efficient certification programs as the required principal exhaust fan in all single detached homes.

Additional Savings:

Discounted Mortgage Rate
Your energy efficient certified home may qualify for a discounted mortgage rate because lending institutions recognize that energy efficient homes free up more income for homeowners.
Example:
Mortgage Amount $300,000
Mortgage interest 6%
1% Discount 5%
Savings: $176.36 per month and $69,778 on a 30-yr mortgage!
10% Refund on Mortgage Loan Insurance
Homebuyers with homes that qualify for CMHC's energy efficient building programs can receive a 10% refund on their mortgage loan insurance. That's equivalent to a $831 refund on a $300,000 mortgage with 5% down.
Lower Monthly Mortgage Payments
Energy efficient homes may also qualify for an extended mortgage amortization from 25 years to 40 years – reducing monthly mortgage payments.

Ask your lending institution for more details on the above savings.
